5 Rainy Day Activities at the Beach

We all plan for perfectly sunny weather when we go on a beach trip. When the weather is uncooperative, it’s easy to find yourself without a plan.

We rounded up a few of our favorite rainy day activities at the beach.

#1 Visit the Local Brewery

We may be a touch biased, but rainy afternoons are the perfect time to visit the brewery near you and sample everything new.

We like to build flight boards with all sorts of different options and order a few appetizers.

#2 Brunch

There’s no reason to rush through a rainy day. Check out the restaurants and bakeries near you and see who offers a great brunch.

Keys to a great brunch include: mimosas, George’s Bloody Mary's, seasonally rotating fruits, and overall good vibes.

Plan for a nap afterwards.

#3 Check out the Music Scene

Beach areas are great at attracting up and coming talent. You can find music from all genres in the local bars and restaurants.

Look for a website that lists who is playing and where to decide what you’re in the mood for!

#4 Enjoy a Paired Meal

Restaurants across the region offer beer and wine paired dinners all throughout the week.

The best part of these meals is that the chefs create off-menu dishes that differ from everything else you’ve had in that establishment prior.

#5 Create Your Own Food Tour

Everyone wants to know who makes the best of a specific dish in the area - why not decide it for yourself?

Wings, nachos, ribs, deviled eggs, calamari, meatballs, grilled cheese, and egg rolls all make great shareable options for tours like this.

We like to research a few options and make a gameplan (and rating system) before we go out.

To welcome back the locals, Thompson Island has created weekly, budget friendly specials, including 1/2 Price Wings, $10 House Burgers, and 25% off the entire check!

#2 Oktoberfest

Thompson Island will host its annual Oktoberfest celebration September 15th-17th.

Not only will there be a menu of Munich-inspired dishes, but ThompsonFest Marzen will be releasing!

#3 Sunday Football Kick-Off

Thompson Island will kick off Sunday Football in the Beer Garden on 11 television screens!

This weekend only, guests can take advantage of $1 Hot Dogs, $2 No Bad Days drafts, and $3 Chili Cheese Dogs

#4 The Oktoberfest Beer Dinner

Always the highest attended beer dinner of the year, this year’s Oktoberfest dinner features pretzels from Chef Dru, Short Rib Sauerbraten from Chef Raul, and crisp, clean beers from the brewers!

#5 Ghostbusters Movie Night

Beer Garden movie nights at Thompson Island have gained a huge fan following and a Friday night showing of Ghostbusters will give even more people the opportunity to join.

This month, Ghostbusters, Marshmallow cookies, and free popcorn are on the agenda!

5 Fall Beers You Can't Miss

Fall is nearly here, so we rounded up some of the customer favorite beers from Thompson Island.

#1. BOOOO!!!!

You may have noticed this choice on Food & Wine Magazine’s website last year.

This spiced beer with notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger and clove continually ranks in the fastest sellers in 4-packs. 5.5% ABV.

This year, look for a special edition t-shirt just for this release.

#2 THOMPSONFEST

Our #2 beer is part of a whole experience - the annual Thompson Island Oktoberfest experience to be precise.

While this beer is enjoyable on its own, it’s best enjoyed outdoors in crisp Fall weather while munching a Bavarian Pretzel dipped in beer cheese.

(Releasing September 15th)

#3 ONCE AROUND THE SUN 2023

Every year, the Brewers at Thompson Island age an Imperial Stouts in a barrel to release in conjunction with the brewery’s anniversary.

This years version was aged in port barrels for a richness and roast that we haven’t seen yet.

(Releasing October 20th)

#4 Engine 86

When the local fire department asked for help raising funds for a new fire truck, Thompson Island answered the call.

Not only is Engine 86 a classic IPA with notes of citrus peel, grapefruit and pine, but every 4-pack sold raises $2 for the Rehoboth Beach Fire Department.
